Flathead Lake and Bigfork

There was lots to do on this day after traveling for us. And, we were in for a treat. With tentative plans for us to head north to Bigfork for the day, Rick and Cindy kept an eye on the weather. By late morning the verdict was in: It was boating weather!

We headed back to the cabin where we were treated to a pontoon boat cruise on Flathead Lake with Cindy and Rick and their two nieces and their families. As the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi River, Flathead in a sight to see. The Mission Mountains provide a majestic backdrop to this pristine body of water.

Our time on the lake passed much too quickly as we soaked in the views, the beautiful homes along the shoreline, this osprey nest and the sun, which made an ever-so-brief appearance or two.

Before we knew it we were back on shore and packing up for our trip to Bigfork. We’re so grateful to Cindy and Rick and their family for sharing their very special place on the lake with us. The cruise was icing on the cake.

Our one-hour journey to Bigfork took us along the eastern side of Flathead Lake. With the Missions to our right and the lake on our left there were views everywhere. Rick and Cindy pointed out all of the don’t miss sights along the way. They included a tour of a beautiful new subdivision of homes with mountain views and very tasteful RV garages. Yes, we could live here! (That’s so easy to say when you’re in Montana on a gorgeous Summer day.)

We arrived in Bigfork about an hour before dinner and walked along its very quaint Main Street. We picked up some huckleberry preserves to replenish our supply after our jam from Bandon runs out. Then we stopped in the local bar for a pre-dinner cocktail. Dinner was at a lovely place called Show-Thyme!, which is located next door to the Bigfork Community Theater. Everything was very tasty. This place earns the exclamation point in its name!

We enjoyed a leisurely and scenic drive home, where we enjoyed a glass of wine and more fun conversation with our friends before they headed back to the cabin. Thanks, guys, for a great day!
